Japanese Embroidery
Classes in the traditional art of Japanese embroidery take place in the village hall on the first Saturday of each month, from 9.00am to 4.00pm.
We use real silk threads that we learn to twist into stitchable threads or use as flat silk to give a beautiful flat texture with a high sheen, and gold and silver threads that get couched down precisely.  Students follow a set of phases to progress through from new beginner  learning the different techniques - these pieces are based on traditional Japanese designs so also teach about the meanings of colour and motifs in the embroidery, and the advanced students have free choice over many more stunning designs.  The class lasts most of the day and so it’s great to be able to break for lunch and use the kitchen to make well deserved tea and coffee, while the hall itself has plenty of good light that’s essential to embroider by.
If you would be interested in coming along, please contact Jo first to get more details and to arrange your visit. A day's tuition is £25. Beginners can borrow the necessary traditional Japanese embroidery equipment for 3 months before purchase.
